Saint Aquila was a disciple of the Apostle Paul and one of the Seventy Apostles.
He was a Jew by origin from Pontus. He was married to Saint Priscilla and lived in Rome. When the emperor began the persecutions, Aquila and his wife moved to Corinth, where they met Saint Paul, came to believe in Christ, and were baptized. They followed him, teaching the word of the Lord and spreading the example of their faith.
When the persecutions in Rome came to an end, the two saints returned there. They spoke to the people about Christianity and later traveled elsewhere, proclaiming the message of the Gospel.
Eventually, they were arrested and got beheaded. Their memory is celebrated on June 29.
