Hosius of Corduba
Holy Hierarch
The venerable one, having withdrawn from worldly pleasures and adorned himself with virtues, was appointed to the episcopal see of the city of Corduba. Zealous for the Orthodox faith, he attended the first Ecumenical Council to expose the madness of Arius and to eradicate his heresy. At the Council, he troubled Arius and many others. After the Orthodox bishops were removed by Emperor Constantius for defending Saint Athanasius the Great, he was also exiled, where he endured numerous sufferings and passed away. The venerable one was exiled in 355 for defending St. Athanasius and, despite threats and violence, signed the Arian confession, but before his death, he anathematized Arianism.
