Saint Nils was born on November 5, 1881, in the village of Peresypkino, Tambov province. After finishing school, he worked on the railway from 1897 to 1921. In 1921, he submitted a request for ordination and became a deacon, and later a priest. He served in the churches of Moscow, was appointed as a rector, and was elevated to the rank of protodeacon.
On February 17, 1933, he was arrested and imprisoned in Butyrka prison. He was accused of anti-Soviet activities, but he did not admit his guilt. On March 22, 1933, he was sentenced to exile in the Northern region, where he worked unloading timber.
Returning in 1936, he served in the Theophany Church, and then in the John the Baptist Church. In 1937, he was arrested again, accused of counter-revolutionary agitation. On October 9, 1937, the NKVD troika sentenced him to ten years of imprisonment in a labor camp. He passed away on October 2, 1938, in the Bamlag and was buried in an unmarked grave.
