Nikolai Vasilievich Zamarayev was born on May 25, 1869, in Veliky Ustyug into the family of a priest. After graduating from the Vologda Theological Seminary, he became a priest in 1890. At the time of his arrest, he was the protoiereus of the Bogorodskaya Cemetery Church in the city of Vologda. He was arrested on July 2, 1937, on charges of 'anti-Soviet agitation' and as a 'member of the counter-revolutionary church-monarchist group.' The troika of the NKVD USSR sentenced him to 10 years in a corrective labor camp. Unable to withstand the conditions of imprisonment, he died on December 9, 1937, in places of confinement.
