Saint Nicholas was born on May 6, 1886, in the village of Staraia Kashira, Kolomensky District, Moscow Province. After finishing school, he worked as a rural teacher until 1922. Moving to Kaluga, he served as a psalmist in the Georgievsky Church and sang in the church choir. In 1937, Nicholas Petrovich was arrested on charges of anti-Soviet agitation, which he denied during the interrogation. On November 19, 1937, the NKVD Troika sentenced him to ten years of imprisonment in a labor camp, where he soon passed away.
