Nikolai Pavlovich Shcherbakov was born on July 24, 1876, in the village of Labazy, Buzuluk district, Samara province, in the family of a priest. After graduating from the Samara Theological Academy and marrying, he accepted the priesthood and was sent to serve in the city of Chapayevsk. In 1932, Father Nikolai was arrested, but was released after 8 days. The next arrest followed on March 29, 1935, where he was accused of 'leading a counter-revolutionary group.' He was sentenced to 5 years of exile in Kazakhstan, where he worked as an accountant. On November 23, 1937, the priest was arrested in exile. During the interrogation, he refused to acknowledge the accusation of anti-Soviet agitation. On November 25, 1937, he was sentenced to execution by a troika of the NKVD, which was carried out on November 28.
