Presbyter
Nikolai Sergeyevich Pokrovsky was born in 1864 in the family of a priest. After graduating from the Simbirsk Theological Seminary in 1889, he began his ministry in the village of Sherauty. In 1891, he was ordained as a deacon and later as a priest. His first independent parish was in the village of Nikulino, where he also taught the Law of God. In 1895, he was transferred to the Blagoveshchensky Women's Monastery, where he served for thirteen years, receiving awards for his labors.
In 1907, during a famine, Father Nikolai organized assistance for those in need. In 1908, he was transferred to the village of Goryushki, where he served until his martyr's death. In 1917, after the revolution, he became a victim of persecution. His church chronicle reflects the anxieties about the events taking place and the sufferings of the people.
In 1918, local Bolsheviks organized persecutions against him, and he was arrested. On a false denunciation, he was accused of counter-revolutionary agitation and was shot on March 5, 1919. His burial was carried out without due honors, and his wife's property was confiscated.
Father Nikolai Pokrovsky became a martyr for the faith, accepting death from the godless authority, and his memory is celebrated on March 5/18, the day of his martyr's death.
