Presbyter
Saint Confessor Nicholas was born in 1868 in the village of Yagorba, Yaroslavl Province, in the family of a priest. After graduating from the Ryazan Theological School, he was ordained as a priest. In 1930, he was arrested as a result of the authorities' chase against all orthodox christians. At that time, the church in the village was closed. However, thanks to the efforts of the people who lived in the area, Saint Nicholas was released and the church was reopened.
In March 1931, he was threatened over unpaid taxes, which led to a conflict with the church deacon who, overcome by fear, spread false rumors about the priest. Father Nicholas, despite the betrayal, continued to serve the word of the Gospel and urged all people to help with the payment of taxes. Soon he was arrested based on several denunciations.
On April 2, 1931, the priest wrote a letter from prison, describing the circumstances of his arrest and the betrayal he suffered at the hands of the deacon. On May 10, 1931, he was sentenced to two years of exile. He passed away on May 4, 1933, in the city of Kholmogory, Arkhangelsk Region, a month before the end of his exile.
