Saint Nicholas was born on November 27, 1862, in the village of Usolie, Perm Province. In 1878, he graduated from the Usolie two-class school and dedicated himself to the service of the Church. From 1879, he was a church clerk at the John the Baptist Church, and in 1885 he became a psalmist. On February 14, 1888, he was ordained as a deacon, and in 1893 he was appointed as a law teacher.
On May 11, 1904, he was ordained as a priest for the church of Saints Peter and Paul in the village of Taman, and appointed as a law teacher at the local district school. In 1908, he became the head of the Bystra Church Parish School. Priest Nicholas Onyanov was shot by godless Bolsheviks in September 1918 and buried in the sand opposite the cathedral in the village of Usolie.
