To the Holy Martyr Priest Nikolai Petrovich Kuligin, who was born in 1870 in the village of Posolodino, Luga district of Saint Petersburg province, in 1884 he entered the Saint Petersburg Theological Seminary. After graduating in 1892, he became a student at the academy, which he completed in 1896 with the degree of Candidate of Theology. The first five years of his pastoral service were spent in his native village, combining the duties of a dean of the churches of the 2nd Luga district. On October 9, 1902, he was appointed rector of the Bolshie Okhtinskie Holy Spirit Church in Saint Petersburg, and on February 5, 1905, he was transferred to the Pokrov Church of the village of Rybackoe, where he served until his execution in 1937. He was arrested on June 26, 1937, accused of counter-revolutionary propaganda. Father Nikolai denied all charges, but on October 7, the verdict of the highest measure of punishment was passed. He was shot on October 14, 1937, on the feast of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos, the patronal feast of the church where he served.
