Saint Nicholas was born on May 3, 1882, in the village of Gubino, Ashitkovskaya volost, Bronnitsky district, Moscow province. From 1903 to 1914, he worked as an accountant at a factory, and then as an assistant accountant in the city administration of Egoryevsk. On March 22, 1920, he was ordained as a deacon at the Assumption Cathedral. In 1923, he participated in the Renovationist Council that condemned Patriarch Tikhon. After the release of the Patriarch, he asked for forgiveness and was accepted into the prayer community. On August 15, 1929, he was ordained as a priest at the Nikolsk Church in the village of Krutiny. In 1930, he was arrested by the OGPU and sentenced to five years in a concentration camp. After returning, he served in the same church and was awarded a pectoral cross. On January 19, 1938, he was arrested again, and on February 2, he was sentenced to death. He was executed on February 17, 1938, and buried in an unmarked grave at the Butovo firing range.
