Saint Nicholas Ershov was born in 1888 in the village of Ryuminskoye into a peasant family. He studied at a village school. In 1912, he was ordained as a deacon, and later that same year — as a priest, serving in the village of Pavlovskaya Pustosh in the Alexandrovsky district of Vladimir province. From 1931, his ministry was in the village of Romanovo in the Pereslavl district of Yaroslavl region, and then he became the rector of the church in the village of Gorodishche. Father Nicholas diligently fulfilled his pastoral duties, instructing his parishioners in the Orthodox faith and loyalty to the Church.
In October 1937, Father Nicholas was arrested, accused of 'participating in an anti-Soviet group, discrediting collective farming, and conducting insurgent propaganda.' The priest rejected all accusations and did not plead guilty. On October 14, he was sentenced by a troika of the NKVD of the Yaroslavl region to eight years in a labor camp. On December 16, 1937, Father Nicholas died in custody under unknown circumstances.
