Presbyter
Saint Nicholas of Bogoslov was born on May 3, 1875, in the village of Payanitsy, Petrozavodsk district, Olonets province, in the family of priest John Bogoslovsky. After graduating from Kazan Theological Seminary in 1897, he was ordained a priest and served until 1918, when he entered Kazan Theological Academy. In 1921, Fr. Nicholas graduated from the academy and from 1925 became a supernumerary priest of the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Petrozavodsk. In 1926, he was elevated to the rank of protodeacon, and on October 30, 1929, he was confirmed as a parish priest of the cathedral. In the same year, the church was closed, and all its clergy moved to serve in the church in honor of the Great Martyr Catherine, where Fr. Nicholas served until 1937, when all the clergy of the church were arrested. Protodeacon Nicholas was arrested on August 31 and imprisoned in Petrozavodsk. Interrogations began immediately after the arrest and lasted for two months. Despite torture, he did not sign any of the investigation protocols in which the investigator demanded a confession of counter-revolutionary activities. On November 2, 1937, the NKVD troika sentenced Father Nicholas to death by shooting. He was shot on November 4, 1937, and buried in a common unmarked grave in the suburbs of Petrozavodsk.
