Saint Nicholas was born on November 9, 1904, in the village of Zdekhovo, Bogorodsky district of the Moscow province, into the family of priest Dmitry Shirogorov. He completed 4 grades of a rural school and 2 grades of a theological school. In 1937, the persecution of the Russian Orthodox Church began, and Nicholas was arrested on November 26 of the same year for 'counter-revolutionary activities.' He was imprisoned in Noginsk prison along with the rector of the church and the psalmist. On December 1, 1937, the NKVD troika sentenced him to ten years of imprisonment in a corrective labor camp. Nicholas was sent to the Bezymyanny corrective labor camp of the NKVD, where he died on September 24, 1942, and was buried in an unmarked grave.
