Presbyter
Saint Nicholas served in the Nativity of the Mother of God Church in the village of Podosinovets in the Vologda Diocese. In 1918, he read from the pulpit the message of Patriarch Tikhon, which provoked the wrath of the godless. The parishioners established a watch in the church to protect the priest. On September 24, 1918, after the funeral service for a parishioner, Nicholas was warned by a nun about the impending danger. However, he remained calm and instructed the children about faith and the commandments. Armed men burst into the house, wounded him, and took him to the 'hospital,' where he was tortured, receiving eleven stab wounds. The priest's body was thrown into a pit, and his colleague, Father Victor, was killed after the funeral service. In the spring, the children of the priests obtained permission to bury them in the cemetery. Nicholas was buried in Podosinovets. He was canonized among the ranks of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia in August 2000.
