Blessed Nikita, who lived in Constantinople and held the position of chartularius, attained spiritual perfection through secret feats of piety. His holy life was revealed under extraordinary circumstances when Deacon Sozont, grieving over a quarrel with a deceased friend, received from the elder an instruction to meet Nikita at the Church of St. Sophia. Nikita, having read the letter, prayed, and the doors of the temple opened by themselves. Inside, he saw light and met the spirit of his friend the priest, with whom they reconciled. After this, Nikita urged Sozont to take care of his soul and to tell the elder that prayers can even raise the dead. Then Nikita became invisible to Sozont, leaving him in gratitude for the miracle accomplished through his prayers.
