Father Mitrofan served the longest in the village of Medvedovo from 1915 to 1929, where he was elevated to the rank of protodeacon. In 1929, the church was closed, and he was transferred to the village of Logovatoe in Bryansk region, where he served for a year until this church was also closed. Then, Protodeacon Mitrofan was appointed to the church in the village of Yartsevo, and later to the Mikhailovskaya church in the city of Starodub, where he was the rector until October 1937.
On October 20, 1937, Protodeacon Mitrofan was arrested and imprisoned in the city of Starodub, then transferred to the city of Klintsy. His relatives were informed that he was allegedly sent into exile. In fact, on November 22, 1937, the troika of the U.N.K.V.D. of the Oryol region sentenced him to death by shooting. His mother, Nadezhda Ivanovna, died in 1955, unaware of her husband's fate, while the children learned of his execution in Klintsy on December 7, 1937, only in 1989.
