During the reign of the Emperor Justinian, Saint Menas served as a presbyter and caretaker of travelers. After the deposition of Patriarch Anthimus, he ascended to the patriarchal throne and was ordained by the Pope Agapetus of Rome.

He held this position for sixteen years and six months, preaching the Gospel and strengthening the faith of the people in every possible way. During his patriarchate, numerous miracles were reported.

It was also during this period that the Fifth Ecumenical Council (553 A.D.) was convened.

Saint Menas fell asleep peacefully. The Church celebrates his memory on August 25.
