He was born on November 5, 1881, in the village of Votyakovo, Chistopol Uyezd, Kazan Province, into the family of peasants Timofey Alexandrovich and Ksenia Yefimovna Votyakov. In 1899, he graduated from the Savrush Church-Parish School and received a certificate of knowledge and the right to teach choral singing. In 1901, he passed the exam for the title of teacher of the church-parish school, and in 1903, he became a psalmist in the Church of St. Nicholas in the village of Zhukotino.
On December 10, 1906, he was ordained a deacon. In 1911, he passed the examination to receive the rank of priest, and in 1914, he was ordained a priest at the Pokrov Church in the village of Kumya. In 1917, trials began: the church elder accused him of extorting money and negligent performance of duties. The investigation did not confirm the accusations, but the peasants signed a decision to remove the priest.
On November 1, 1917, some parishioners appealed to the bishop to contest this decision, and the priest was allowed to continue serving. In 1919, he was transferred to the Church of Saints Equal-to-the-Apostles Constantine and Helena. In 1921, the parishioners of the church in the village of Krasny Yar requested him to come to them, but he was appointed to the Pokrov Church in the village of Sarsasy. During his service in this parish, he was elevated to the rank of protodeacon.
In 1929, he was arrested on charges of agitation against grain procurements, but was soon released. In 1930, he was sent to serve in the Trinity Church in the village of Chistopolsky Vyselki. On April 20, 1931, the village council drew up an act accusing him of anti-Soviet agitation. On April 22, he was arrested and imprisoned.
On April 28, all those arrested were charged with conducting anti-Soviet agitation. On June 12, 1931, the OGPU troika sentenced him and some peasants to execution by shooting. On June 18, 1931, Protodeacon Mikhail Votyakov and the peasants were shot and buried in a common nameless grave.
