Michael Yakunin
Martyr
Mikhail, the martyr, was born on November 7, 1878, in the village of Petrushevo, Ryazan province. In his childhood, he completed a three-grade school and became a well-known blacksmith. His household was not wealthy, but he remained faithful to God and the Church. After the dekulakization in 1932, he was tried for non-payment of state dues and spent six months in prison. On September 21, 1937, he was arrested for the second time and accused of participating in the counter-revolutionary uprising of 1918. By the decree of the 'troika' of the NKVD of the USSR on December 6, 1937, he was sentenced to execution.
