Priest Michael (Karygopolov) served in the village of Petrovskoye in the Achinsk district of the Yenisei province. On January 31, 1919, he was arrested by the Bolsheviks. After the arrest, the Red Army soldiers attempted to forcibly remove his cross, but he refused to take it off. In response to his steadfastness, one of the executioners shot him in the head, after which numerous shots followed until he was killed.
On March 17, 1919, a solemn funeral service for the priest was held at the Annunciation Church in the city of Krasnoyarsk, conducted by the diocesan bishop with the participation of many clergy. The body of the martyr was buried next to the Annunciation Church.
