Martyrius the Deacon of the Kiev Caves, Venerable
Venerable
Deacon
Deacon
He labored in the 14th century in the Kiev-Pechersk Monastery, pleasing God with great purity and a strict ascetic life. He was glorified with the gift of miracles even during his lifetime. In the 7th hymn of the canon, the blessed one is noted for his diligence, righteousness, and purity of heart, as well as for the gift of casting out demons and healing ailments. His memory is celebrated especially on October 25/November 7, likely in honor of his name day with the holy martyr Martyrius († 355), also on August 28/September 10, and on the 2nd Sunday of Great Lent.
