Martyrs Marcian and Martyrius, the Notaries of Constantinople
Martyrs
In the times of persecution against Christians, caused by the heresy of Arius, the holy martyrs Markian and Martyrius, being disciples of Saint Paul the Confessor, steadfastly confessed the faith in the Divinity of Jesus Christ. They, being a reader and a subdeacon, defended the Church from heretical attacks, rejecting all worldly temptations and threats. For their faithfulness to Christ, they were condemned to death by the Arians. Before their execution, they prayed, asking the Lord to accept their souls. After their martyrdom, their relics were buried in Constantinople, where Saint John Chrysostom built a church in their honor, where healings occurred through their prayers.
