Saint Mark the Ascetic of Egypt
Venerable
Saint Mark the Ascetic was an outstanding ascetic who surpassed all monks in his ascetic life. He studied the Divine Scriptures and achieved perfection in virtue, writing many teachings. His purity of soul was so great that he received holy gifts from an Angel, who himself communed him. The saint never showed anger; his meekness was remarkable. He spent forty years in monastic life and sixty years in the struggle of fasting. He died at the age of one hundred, around the middle of the 5th century, on the Nitrian Mountain in Egypt.
