Saint Mary Cleopas, the Myrrhbearer, was the daughter of the righteous Joseph, the Betrothed of the Most Holy Virgin Mary, from his first marriage. She became friends with the Most Holy Virgin Mary when she entered the house of Joseph. After returning from Egypt, the righteous Joseph married her to his younger brother Cleopas, from whom was born the Holy Martyr Simeon, Apostle of the Seventy and the second bishop of the Jerusalem Church.
Saint Mary Cleopas followed the Lord during His ministry, was at the cross during His sufferings, and at the burial. She, along with the other myrrhbearers, came to the tomb to anoint the body of Jesus and heard the joyful news from the Angel about His resurrection.
The memory of Saint Mary Cleopas is celebrated on the Third Sunday after Pascha, of the holy myrrh-bearing women.
