Venerable Martyr
Maria Stepanovna Kovorova was born in 1887 in the village of Galygino, Korobovsky District of Moscow Oblast. She became a novice at the Alexander-Mariinsky Convent of Women in the village of Evlevo, Yegoryevsky District of Ryazan Province. On February 26, 1938, the novice was arrested, accused of 'anti-collective farm agitation.' On March 9, 1938, the Troika of the NKVD of the USSR issued a verdict — the highest measure of punishment, execution by shooting. She was shot on March 16, 1938, at the Butovo firing range.
