Venerable Mardarij, the hermit of Pechersk, asceticized in the Far Caves in the 13th century. In the manuscript saints' lives, he is referred to as 'non-possessive', and according to the inscription at his relics – 'without a shelter'. His name is mentioned in the 7th song of the Service of the Synaxis of the Fathers of the Far Caves (August 28) along with Venerable Ammon, where he is called 'the caretaker of poverty'. He is buried in the Far Caves. His memory is celebrated also on August 28 and on the 2nd Sunday of Great Lent.
