St. Macedonius the Hermit of Syria
Venerable
Saint Macarius chose the mountain peaks for his feats, avoiding communication with visitors. He lived for forty-five years in a cave, and then, at the request of pilgrims, built himself a cell, in which he lived for twenty-five years, not coming out to the brethren and outsiders. In total, the saint labored for seventy years, more than forty of which he fed on only a seed, and then began to eat a little bread with water. The Lord glorified him with the gift of miracles: he cast out demons and healed diseases. Once, a woman suffering from an ailment manifested by excessive eating was brought to him. By the prayers of the saint, she was healed. Saint Macarius peacefully fell asleep in the Lord around the year 420.
