Metropolitan Bishop
The Russian land, since the moment of its Baptism, has produced numerous spiritual fruits – holy ascetics who have pleased God with their deeds and pious lives. The Russian Church glorifies the passion-bearers, the blessed sovereigns, the wonderful hierarchs, the great miracle-workers, the venerable and equal-to-the-apostles ascetics, holy women, and all the saints of God. After their blessed repose, they, standing before the Throne of God, prayerfully intercede for their Fatherland.
The saints are the "salt" of the Russian land; their deeds strengthen the faith of the people. Their lives serve as spiritual education and growth for the Russian people, revealing the depths of the human heart and the fullness of God's grace. In the year of the celebration of the 1000th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus, a council of the Russian Orthodox Church glorified a multitude of saints whose activities span about six centuries of church history. Among them is Saint Macarius, Metropolitan of Moscow and all Rus.
