St. Lupus from Novae
Martyr
Saint Lupus lived during the reign of Emperor Aurelian.
He was known for his deep piety and steadfast faith in Christ. When the local ruler, near whom he lived, tried to persuade him to worship the idols, Saint Lupus threw them into the sea. For this act, he was pursued by pagans who sought to kill him.
While praying to God, the saint received the holy baptism from water that miraculously flowed from heaven. He then faced martyrdom, refusing to yield to the threats of the governor.
Ultimately, he was executed by beheading, entrusting his soul to the hands of God. The faithful buried him with great honor, while many miracles began to occur at his tomb.
The Church celebrates his memory on August 23.
