Saint Lucia was from Sicily.
She was arrested and taken captive by the Roman vicar Rixo, who forced her to offer sacrifices to idols. She refused and declared her desire to remain a servant of the Lord. Impressed by her devotion, the vicar released her and gave her the permission to pray in seclusion.
Twenty years later, the saint asked him to allow her to travel to Campania. He abandoned everything and went with her. There they were captured by the governor, tortured, and put to death as martyrs.
Along with them suffered the holy martyrs Anatolias, Antoninus, Lycias, Neas, Serinus, Diodorus, Dion, Apollonius, Apamus, Pappianus, Cottyius, Oronos, Papicus, Satyros, Victor, and nine others. All of them were led to martyrdom in AD 301, during the reign of Diocletian.
