Saint Luke came from the Sicilian city of Tauromenium. In his youth, he diligently attended churches and studied the Divine Scriptures. When his parents wanted to marry him off, he fled to the desert, where he lived with wild beasts and fasted for 14 days, being graced with divine visitation. After accepting monasticism in a monastery, he devoted himself to a strict ascetic life, eating only bread and water, and almost not sleeping. Saint Luke withdrew to Mount Etna, where he lived in asceticism, feeding on herbs and laboring in prayer. He gathered monks and cared for the improvement of their lives, visiting Byzantium to study monastic communities. In Corinth, after living in one monastery for seven months, he peacefully departed to the Lord.
