Saint Leonid was born on April 18, 1868, in the village of Aleshino, in the Bronnitsky district of Moscow province. His father, Vladimir, served in the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross for forty-three years. In 1888, Leonid graduated from the Moscow Theological Seminary and became a teacher. In 1896, he was ordained a priest at the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, where he served for forty-two years.
In 1931, Father Leonid was arrested, accused of causing harm to collective property. The court sentenced him to confiscation of property, but the sentence was overturned. In March 1938, he was arrested on charges of anti-Soviet agitation. On March 31, 1938, Father Leonid was imprisoned.
On July 16, 1938, the NKVD troika sentenced him to ten years of imprisonment. He was sent to the Mariinsky camps, where he died on November 11, 1941, and was buried in an unmarked grave.
