St. Laurence, Abbot of Komel (Vologda)
Venerable
A disciple of the venerable Cornelius of Komel, he labored in asceticism, fasting, and prayer. By the direction of his mentor, he was appointed as the igumen of the monastery. During the invasion of the Tatars, following the advice of the elder, he withdrew with the brethren into the forests, and when the danger had passed, he returned to his former place.
After the death of his mentor, the saint governed the monastery for ten years, caring for its well-being, and amidst the labors of the abbacy, he did not neglect his beloved task of copying books. After many labors and struggles, the venerable one reposed on May 16, 1548.
