Hieromonk
St. Kosmas was born on January 14, 1904, in the village of Shushvalovka, Poltava province. In 1924, he entered as a novice in the High-Petrovsky Monastery in Moscow, where he received monastic tonsure with the name Kosmas. In 1930, he was arrested during the persecutions against the Russian Orthodox Church and sentenced to three years of exile in the Northern region. After his return, he was ordained as a hieromonk and assigned to serve in the Protection Church in the village of Milyatino. His service was brief, as he was arrested on April 11, 1935. During interrogations, he answered with restraint, not admitting his guilt in anti-Soviet activities. On June 8, 1935, he was sentenced to three years of imprisonment in a labor camp. In the camp, the persecutions continued, and on November 26, 1937, the NKVD troika sentenced him to execution. Hieromonk Kosmas was shot on December 15, 1937, and buried in a common unmarked grave.
