Saints Justus, Justin, Chariton, Charito, Evelpistus, Hierax, Paeon, and Liberianus suffered martyrdom in 166 AD. They were taken to Rome, where they were imprisoned and later brought before the governor. With great courage, they openly confessed their faith in Christ.
The governor asked Saint Justin whether he truly believed that, after enduring torture, he would inherit the Kingdom of Heaven and be beloved by God. The saint replied that not only he believed, but he knew it with certainty and had complete confidence in it.
Enraged by their steadfastness, the governor demanded that all the Christian prisoners offer sacrifices to the idols. When they refused, he issued the sentence of death. The holy martyrs were beheaded, thus receiving the crown of martyrdom.
