Venerable Cassian, Abbot of Komel (Vologda)
Venerable
He was a disciple of the venerable Cornelius of Komel, managing the Komel Monastery during Cornelius's retreat to Lake Sur. Elected by the brotherhood as igumen with the blessing and consent of Cornelius, he sought to emulate his teacher and strictly adhered to his rule. Venerable Cassian insisted on prayer, care for inner work, and drove away earthly thoughts.
Upon Cornelius's return to the monastery, Cassian joyfully welcomed his teacher and renounced the igumenate, wishing to remain in obedience. Venerable Cassian reposed in 1537, preceding his teacher and completing his struggle.
