The Holy Apostle Carp, a disciple and companion of the Holy Apostle Paul, is mentioned in the 2nd Epistle to Timothy, where the Apostle left him a chasuble and books. He was the bishop of Beroea in Thrace and preached the Gospel on the island of Crete, where he was visited by Saint Dionysius the Areopagite, who describes a miraculous vision to the Apostle Carp. The Holy Apostle Carp died peacefully in Beroea, although according to other sources, he met a martyr's end during the persecutions of Emperor Nero.
