Martyrs Callista and her brothers, Evodius and Hermogenes, at Nicomedia
Martyrs
The holy martyrs, having received spiritual rebirth in the sacrament of holy baptism, were accused before the pagan ruler of being Christians. Seeing their steadfastness in confessing Christ, the ruler condemned them to be beheaded. They, having completed their martyrdom, departed to the Lord.
They suffered in Nicomedia, in the northwestern part of Asia Minor, the residence of Emperor Diocletian. The exact time of the death of these saints is unknown, but some attribute it to the persecution of Diocletian (early 4th century). In the Studite Rule of Patriarch Alexius of the 11th century, it is mentioned that their relics were located in the Studite Monastery, and a service was held for them on September 1.
