The martyrs Juventinus and Maximus suffered during the reign of the emperor Julian the Apostate, serving as bodyguards. In Antioch, Julian decided to desecrate the Christians by sprinkling the food supplies sold in the markets with the blood of idol sacrifices. Juventinus and Maximus condemned the actions of the emperor and rebuked him for his apostasy. After being beaten, both were executed in prison by the order of the emperor († c. 361–363).
