Saint Justin Popović, a renowned ascetic, theologian, and spiritual writer, was born in the city of Vranje on the Feast of the Annunciation. He was born into the family of a priest. He studied at the Theological School of Saint Sava in Belgrade, where Saint Nikolai (Velimirović) was one of his teachers. He also pursued theological studies in Saint Petersburg, as well as at the University of Oxford.
After completing his education, he devoted himself to teaching, guiding and mentoring many young people. He also contributed to the publication of Orthodox journals and newspapers. In 1926, he successfully defended his doctoral dissertation in Athens. From the late 1930s onward, he participated in various missionary endeavors. When he was invited to become Bishop of Mukachevo, he humbly declined.
In 1932, he was appointed professor at the Theological School of Bitola, while two years later he became an associate professor at the Faculty of Theology in Belgrade. From May 1948 until his repose, he lived at the Monastery of Ćelije, where he served as a spiritual father. He also produced many significant theological works.
He reposed in the Lord on the Feast of the Annunciation, the same day on which he had been born.
