Saint Hesychios the Chorebite
Blessed
Saint Isikhios, neglecting the salvation of his soul, fell ill and repented during his sickness. He spent twelve years in seclusion, feeding only on bread and water, and spending all his time in prayer and tears. When the time of his death approached, the brethren of the monastery, breaking down the doors, tried to speak with him, but he only said: “Forgive me! He who keeps in his soul the memory of death will not sin.” The brethren were amazed at his transformation and buried his body with honor. Later, when they sought the holy relics, they could not find them, which showed everyone the power of true repentance for those wishing to amend, even after a long neglect of salvation.
