Saint martyr Irina suffered during the feast of Pascha in Greece. She, along with other Christians, lived in a cave, spending time in prayer. Wicked idolaters reported them to the ruler, and Saint Irina was captured and imprisoned. During the interrogation, she confessed Jesus as the true God, for which she was beaten and imprisoned again. The ruler, failing to obtain her renunciation of Christ, subjected her to cruel tortures: her tongue was cut out, her teeth were knocked out, and finally, her head was severed with a sword.
On the same day, we commemorate the holy martyr Leonidas and the holy women: Charissa, Nunechia, Vasilissa, and Theodora, who suffered and were drowned in the sea in Corinth in 251 AD.
According to the Prologue, the holy martyr suffered in Corinth, while according to the Menology, she suffered in Macedonia. Her martyrdom is dated to either 205 AD or 304 AD.
