Martyr Joseph (Joseph Yakovlevich Bespalov) was the starosta (warden) of the Nikolskaya Church in the Talgar stanitsa of the Vernensky district of the Semirechenskaya region. On January 18, 1921, he was shot by Bolsheviks in the Talgar stanitsa along with thirty-seven Orthodox parishioners.
