Archbishop
He was born in Novgorod at the end of the 14th century and became an orphan at an early age. In his childhood, he received a prophecy about his future as a saint from Blessed Mikhail of Klopsk, which was fulfilled fifty years later.
He took monastic vows in the Oten Desert and was elected as the igumen. In 1458, the people of Novgorod wished to have him as their archbishop. He cared for widows and orphans, interceding for the Novgorodians before the Grand Duke of Moscow, keeping them from an alliance with Lithuania.
He was deeply concerned about the spiritual enlightenment of his flock and the construction of churches, providing assistance in the establishment of the Solovetsky Monastery by issuing a charter to the Venerable Zosima for the transfer of Solovetsky Island into the management of the new community.
He passed away on November 5, 1470. His incorrupt relics became renowned for numerous miracles.
