The holy venerable martyrs Basil of Mirazh and Joasaph of Snetnaya suffered from the Germans in the 13th century in Pskov. Venerable Basil managed the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Mirazh Monastery, founded by Saint Niphon, Bishop of Novgorod, and Venerable Abraham. Venerable Joasaph was the abbot of the monastery in honor of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos on Snetnaya Hill. Both monasteries were unprotected and on March 4, 1299, they were burned by the Germans. During the fire, together with other monks, Venerable Basil and Joasaph accepted a martyr's end.
After their death, the holy prince Dovmont restored the monasteries and created a stone church in the Snetnaya Monastery. Soon after their martyr's death, their church glorification took place in Pskov. The memory of the saints is celebrated on March 4, as indicated in the Pskov chronicle and ancient Pskov synodics.
