John Zolotov
Martyr
Martyr John was born in 1897 in the village of Kupriyanovo, Moscow province, into the family of peasant Pavel Zolotov. He was arrested on August 26, 1937, and imprisoned in Butyrka prison. During the interrogation, he refused to answer questions, but then began to respond, denying accusations of visiting the schemamonk Alexandra. He confessed to participating in a counter-revolutionary group and providing assistance to monasticism. On October 8, 1937, the NKVD troika sentenced him to execution. He was shot on October 9, 1937, at the Butovo firing range and buried in an unknown common grave.
