Saint John was born in 1867 in the village of Petrikovka, Yekaterinoslav Province. From 1915, he served as a psalmist in the village of Dmitrievka in the East Kazakhstan region, and in 1917, he was ordained as a priest and began serving in the church of the village of Pavlovka. In 1929, he was arrested and exiled, and the church was closed. From 1933, he served in the Petropavlovsk church of the village of Petropavlovsk, where he was arrested in 1935 for evading taxes and illegally performing baptisms. In 1936, he was released and returned to the village of Pavlovka. On November 25, 1937, he was arrested again. During the interrogation, he spoke about the difficulties of life under Soviet power and about his ministry. On December 2, 1937, he was sentenced by a troika of the NKVD to the highest measure of punishment. The sentence was carried out on December 30, 1937. The burial place is unknown.
