Saint John of the Desert lived in the 8th century in the Lavra of Saint Chariton, located near Bethlehem, close to the Dead Sea. In his youth, he left the world to venerate the holy places of Jerusalem and settled in the Lavra, where he achieved a high level of spiritual perfection. John was ordained as a presbyter and became renowned for his ascetic life.
