Saint John was born on March 17, 1878, in the city of Torzhok, Tver Province. He graduated from a two-class exemplary school and was ordained a priest in the early 1920s. In 1929, he was arrested and sentenced to three years of exile. After his return, he served in the church of the village of Perkovo, where he faced persecution in 1937.
On November 17, 1937, local authorities drafted a report on the priest, accusing him of prolonging services and preaching that urged parishioners towards piety. On November 27, the NKVD Troika sentenced him to death by shooting. Saint John Tsvetkov was executed on November 29, 1937.
